CELL-tainer® Single-use Bioreactor

Lonza continues its commitment to providing innovative products for the life science community with the introduction of its CELL-tainer® Bioreactor, the only 100% single-use bioreactor. Use of glass or stainless steel bioreactors will become obsolete with this revolutionary system that provides such advantages as:
- Unique, two dimensional motion, resulting in increased cell densities and product yields
- CELL-tainer® Bioreactor Bag with integral DO and pH probes, providing the only 100% single-use solution, minimizing validation & eliminating the need for cleaning
- CELL-tainer® Multi-compartment Bioreactor, permitting scale up from 150 ml to 15 L in a single bag, minimizing potential contamination
- Multi-purpose system that can be used for mammalian & microbial cultures

The CELL-tainer® Bioreactor creates a number of efficiencies from the process development level through the manufacturing phase, including increasing production in reduced culture volumes, and minimizing validation and installation costs.
An extremely easy system to use, the CELL-tainer® Bioreactor provides the flexibility and efficiency to scale up production more quickly by using a single bioreactor bag for working volumes of 150 ml to 15 L. In addition to flexibility, use of a single UltraPAK™ Bioprocess Bag also reduces costs and the potential for contamination, and the advantages of the UltraPAK™ Film have been well documented. Unlike other systems, the CELL-tainer® Bioreactor uses all disposable probes and accessories, further minimizing the potential for contamination. The time required for cleaning and validation between productions is minimized, creating yet more efficiencies in time and cost.
There has been little change in bioreactor designs over the years. Some reactors mix the contents by a gentle wave motion, while others apply a paddle for mixing and mass transfer generation. The CELL-tainer® Bioreactor provides the advantage of two-dimensional motion, resulting in better oxygen uptake and better removal of CO2, so cells can grow at higher densities, enabling greater production in the same volume of culture and significant cost savings. In addition, scale-up is based on the conformity principle, which ensures the same performance at various phases and volumes, and shortens the biopharmaceutical development time.
The CELL-tainer® Bioreactor is also the only bioreactor that can also grow bacteria and yeast, in addition to mammalian cells.
