I am a senior production scheduler in Portsmouth, NH. I am part of a group responsible for scheduling at all levels for the plant. We work with SLT at the S&OP level, down to scheduling items to the nearest hour on the manufacturing floor, and everything in between.
2. Why do you like working at Lonza? How is the working environment?

Working at Lonza in New Hampshire has allowed my children to grow up near their grandparents. I grew up in NH, and had lived away for close to 10 years before returning to the state. This part of NH is great for outdoor activities because you are near both ocean and mountains.
4. What makes Lonza unique?
The caliber of people that work at our site is very high. The dedication to do great work at our site is something I had not experienced prior. The pace of production and the number of different customers products that we produce mean that there is constant change here.
5. What do you like doing in your free time? I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, we have two young girls. I enjoy remodeling and fixing up our house and spending time landscaping in the yard.
6. What is your motto? If you settle for less, it is what you will get.
7. What did you do prior to joining Lonza?
I was a manufacturing manager for a small biotech site near Atlanta, Georgia. We produced purified enzymes used in a rapid diagnostic testing system.

1. What is your current role at Lonza? Since April, 2009, Lonza has structured the sourcing organization, from now on, as a project buyer for the global strategic sourcing team located in Basel, I have to handle different new projects which are from all sectors. Because of my over 8 year solid working experience in China, this gives me the great help on my current job and at the same time, I am helping the current China sourcing team to leverage their valuable network in the China market.
2. Why do you like working at Lonza? Lonza offers me a lot of opportunities; it’s like a platform! During the past 8 years, my job focused on China and India, but now as a project buyer, I have a plenty of opportunities to establish and extend my network with the Western companies. This absolutely enhances my global view in this industry. In today’s business environment, we act in a very dynamic business environment, every day is new for me, and it needs clever thinking to find innovative and flexible solutions. I love this challenging work.
3. How do you perceive the working climate at Lonza? At Lonza we work in a team. Although we have our own office, we are not alone! I enjoy the discussions with experts from a variety of disciplines, and I really appreciate that teamwork is so highly valued at Lonza. I perceive that at Lonza people don’t mind mistakes. Everyone can learn from his mistakes, and this I experience at work every day. If I do something wrong, it is seen as an opportunity for improvement and a learning lesson.
4. Which was your most amazing experience? My two relocations were the most amazing experiences. I started my Lonza career in Lonza Hong Kong. As a graduate, I didn’t have much working experience, and I was excited about my new activity. My contributions were much appreciated, and I was promoted by my supervisor. Then I moved to Guangzhou China. Although I worked in the same country, the working environment was very different, and everything was new to me, including the people’s mindset and working environment. I managed the challenges, and after three years, I got the opportunity to work in Basel. The move into a totally different culture was not always easy, but it is broadening my horizon. Lonza gives me the chance to work internationally and to see the world from a different perspective. I am happy to work for Lonza.
5. What is your special regional benefit about working at Lonza? I enjoy the cafeteria on the 9th floor of the Lonza tower in Basel. It’s nice to drink a coffee together there or to have lunch with this beautiful overview of the town.

1. What is your current role at Lonza? My current role is Supply Chain Manager. Behind this name is hidden production planning, managing the Purchasing department, warehousing processes and finally logistics and sales. Because I was one of the key persons with the SAP implementation in Kourim, Czech Republic, I am still an SAP “expert” for materials management in Kourim. I am also one of three statutory officers for Lonza Biotec s.r.o.
2. What is important to know about Supply Chain Management? Supply Chain Management is all about action. It is important to analyze the information you have or to find the information you need for the decision-making process. Sometimes there is a very limited time to respond and this is the positive “adrenaline” in this working field.
3. Why do you like working at Lonza? Working for Lonza in Kourim is exciting for me because the business is still moving and changing in a positive way. With these changes new challenges arise, and this is why I like to work. Knowing that Lonza is a strong and growing company only supports that. There is a young and dynamic team in Kourim, and it is nice to be a part of it.
4. Which was your most amazing experience? For me the implementation of SAP in Kourim was the most amazing experience. Due to unexpected personnel changes during the implementation period, my role changed from the simple process mapping at the beginning to the process definition and finally to the product costing. Most of it was new for me, and I had to learn it within a very short period. It was a fast, nervous and hectic time, but with the great support of the Lonza SAP team, we did it!
